Process for the production of L-threonine by fermentation, the said process comprising the culture of a mutant belonging to the genus Brevibacterium, and in which the dihydrodipicolinate synthethase activity has been suppressed or reduced, in a liquid medium, the production and accumulation of L-threonine in the said medium and the recovery of the L-threonine produced. The mutant is preferably resistant to alpha -amino-ss-hydroxyvaleric acid.
