PURPOSE:To obtain a refractory having improved hot creep characteristics and useful as the material of a calcining tool such as a setter by adding specified zirconia to a mineral material having the compsn. of an alumina or alumina-mullite refractory. CONSTITUTION:Zirconia of <=0.15mm diameter is added to a mineral material having the compsn. of an alumina or alumina-mullite refractory, e.g., finely powdered sintered alumina, fine alumina powder, electromelted alumina, electromelted mullite or clay by >=0.1wt.% and a binder such as CMC is further added as required. They are kneaded, press-molded to a desired shape and sintered to obtain a refractory having increased bending strength, e.g., at 1,400 deg.C and a remarkably reduced rate of deformation under certain load. |
