A transmission joint for converting a rotary motion from a shaft to another shaft or to levers via a forked coupling involves use of a cubic block with four radiused conic revesses in pairs on crossed axes to accept dowels from twin meshed forks. The block may be machined, cast or moulded from materials such as steel, brass, sintered metal or polyamide resin. The core of the cone may be drilled from the roots of the recesses to accommodate some lubricants and the dowels may enter the cube via seals made of rubber or of low-friction material. The coupling can tolerate mis-alignment of the shaft axes, e.g. for a slightly cranked steering wheel column.
|
