PURPOSE:To implement a gradation expression, which agrees with gradation data, wherein recording image is inputted, by controlling the amount of energy, which is applied with an applying means so that the gradation data are proportional to the size of an ink image. CONSTITUTION:In a gradation data memory part 100, gradation data with regard to a recording image, which is sent from a data source such as, e.g., an image reader and a computer, are stored. The memory part is composed of a shift register and a latch circuit. The gradation data for one line, which are sent in series, are temporarily shored. A correcting part 101 generates pulses to be applied to a head 5. A PWM (pulse width modulation) signal part 102 generates pulses, whose pulse widths are changed in correspondence with the gradation data, which are stored in the gradation data memory part 100, as a pulse signal having a constant period. A power source part 103 generates a voltage, which is to be applied to the pulse signal generated in the PWM modulation signal part 102. When the specified signal is added to the pulse signal, which is generated in the PWM modulation signal part 102, the ink density of the recording image (area of the ink image) and the inputted data have the proportional relationship. |
