摘要 PURPOSE:To adaptively realize a picture processing in response to the feature of a picture at every picture area by calculating the square sum mean value of a difference between adjacent picture elements, normalizing the square sum mean value by the mean value of the information in relating to the picture density and comparing the normalized value with a prescribed reference value. CONSTITUTION:The subject processor is provided with a square sum mean value calculating means 61 calculating the square sum mean value of a difference between adjacent picture elements in the information relating to the picture density of picture information and a comparison identification means 45. Then, the square sum mean value of the difference between the adjacent picture elements in the information relating to the picture density of the picture information is calculated, the square sum mean value is normalized by the mean value of the information relating to the picture density, the normalized value is compared with a prescribed reference value to identify whether the picture information is binary picture or a non-binary picture. Thus, proper picture processing can be applied to even a low contrast character such as a blurring character written in a pencil decided to be a photograph area and whose resolution is remarkably damaged while preserving its resolution.
