PURPOSE:To provide a dot printer, which can print high quality characters and the like in correspondence with a plurality of dot pitches such as Elite pitches and Pica pitches. CONSTITUTION:A dot printer is provided with the following components: a dot pitch switching means (e.g. a switch) 6, which can switch a plurality of different dot pitches; a carriage control circuit 11, which controls the moving speed of a carriage in a printing region to the speed corresponding to the dot pitch specified by the switching means 6; a detecting device 3, which generates a series of detected signals in association with the movement of the carriage; a timer circuit 12, which is triggered by the detected signals and outputs a timer signal after a presettable delay time; a timing generating circuit 13, which is triggered by the timer signal and generates timing signals having the number of signals that can be preset at the same period; and a control circuit 10, which sets a delay time and the number of signals for each detected signal in correspondence with the specified dot pitch. |
