PURPOSE:To enable the growth of a single crystal by simple procedures with decreased steps, by combining various steps including a step to fix a seed holder to an ampule in the insertion of the seed crystal attached to the seed holder into the ampule and the sealing of the ampule in vacuum. CONSTITUTION:The raw material sealed in the ampule 2 is melted and then quenched to obtain a polycrystalline material 3. A solvent material 5 is placed on the polycrystalline material 3, and a seed crystal 7 attached to the seed holder 6 is inserted into the ampule until the crystal is brought into contact with the solvent material 5. The holder 6 is fixed to the ampule 2 before sealing the ampule 2 in vacuum. The ampule 2 is suspended in an electric furnace 12, the seed crystal 7 is separated relatively from the solvent 5 when a part of the polycrystalline material 3 is dissolved in the molten solvent 5, and a single crystal 14 is made to grow at the tip of the crystal 7. |
