Known methods of the said type have a relatively complicated sequence and are not fully secured against falsifications of the sample taken. The novel method is intended to have a simple sequence and to eliminate falsifications of the samples. Furthermore, a device for carrying out the method is to be provided. In the novel method, two partial streams of milk are branched off parallel to each other from the main milk stream into two sample-taking containers (3) and (4), this taking place with different proportionality factors. Upon reaching the maximum level of the first sample-taking container (3) having the large proportionality factor, this is separated from the main milk stream, and only the partial stream with the small proportionality factor is branched off into the second sample-taking container (4). At the end of a filling process, the milk sample is extracted, according to whether the maximum level in the first sample-taking container (3) has been reached or not reached, either from the second sample-taking container (4) or from the first sample-taking container (3). The novel method, as well as the appertaining device, are especially suitable for application and use in milk collection vehicles. <IMAGE>
