PURPOSE:To adjust the valence even when a specified element is separated by the irradiation of light and a laser beam by projecting stimulating light to separate a group of elements into the element having the valency capable of being collected and the element incapable of being collected, and then collecting the element group. CONSTITUTION:The photocatalyst of TiO2 carrying Pt and a sulfonic cation- exchange resin are packed in the glass column 2 provided with a stopper 3 as the packing material 1. The ethanol as a reducing aid is previously added to a 3N HNO3 soln. contg. Fe(III) and Ce(III), and the mixture is introduced from the upper end of the column 2 into the packing material 1 consisting of the photocatalyst and cation-exchange resin. The light 20 is simultaneously projected on the packing material 1 from the outside of the column 2 by using the light source 5 of an Xe lamp. Ce(III) is adsorbed on the ion-exchange resin in the packing material from the HNO3 soln., however Fe(III) is not adsorbed. Accordingly, when the soln. is drawn off by operating a valve 4, the Ce is left on the packing material, and only Fe is eluted to the lower part of the column. |
