PURPOSE:To enable a variety of tests to be performed without providing a multiplicity of specifying switches by a method wherein when an instruction for execution is inputted by a test item specifying switch, a test function relevant to an item selected by a test item selecting switch is executed. CONSTITUTION:With a power switch turned ON, a controlling circuit 1 initializes each part of the printer, and checks whether a test key 41 is operated. When a test mode is started, a plurality of test items stored in a ROM 2 are read individually, and are printed on a recording paper. With an online key 42 operated, the operation is judged as a test item selecting operation, the number of operations of the key 42 is detected, and a test item corresponding to the number of operations is recognized. The controlling circuit 1 then monitors an operation of a next page key 44. With the key 44 operated, the operation is judged as a test item specifying operation, a test corresponding to the number assigned to the test item recognized is selected, and execution of the test is started. |
