A description is given of a bow-shaped chain tensioner which has a chain track for the purpose of guiding a flat-link articulated chain. Provided in the region of the chain entry is a roller, which is the first element with which the chain to be tensioned comes into contact and which takes up chain lashing movements. In a preferred embodiment, the roller ring is resiliently supported via tangentially extending spokes.
