The head (1) is guided by a quadrilateral structure (ABCD) including a first strut (2) as close as possible to the surface of the record carrier (4), joining one end (A) of an angled carrier (7) to a fixed point (B) on the head. The second strut (3) above and parallel to the first (2) has needle bearings (8,9) at its ends (DC) in the carrier (7) and head (1) respectively for movement in any direction. A traction spring (11) has a component of force which holds the upper strut (3) in its bearings (8,9). USE/ADVANTAGE - For magnetic card used e.g. with cash dispenser, vending or service machine. Head can move to compensate for surface irregularities without lateral displacement from record track.
