<p>A rotatable chuck assembly for a power driven threading machine is disclosed comprising a tubular spindle (S) having front and rear ends and front and rear workpiece engaging jaws (FJ,RJ) respectively at the front and rear ends. Each front jaw (52) is connected to a corresponding rear jaw (100) by a rod (50) to which the jaws (52,100) are rigidly attached, and the rods (50) are mounted on the exterior of the spindle (S) for rotation therewith and for pivotal movement relative thereto. A drive plate (DC) at the front end of the spindle (S) is mounted coaxially thereon for pivotal movement relative to the spindle (S) and is provided with drive pins (97) interengaging with slots (96) in the front jaws (52), whereby pivotal movement of the drive plate (DC) in opposite directions imparts pivotal movement to the front jaws (52) radially inwardly and outwardly of the spindle axis (A). The front jaws (52) and the rods (50) to which they are attached provide the only driving connection between the drive plate (DC) and the rear jaws (100), whereby pivotal displacement of the front jaws (52) imparts corresponding pivotal displacement to the rear jaws (100). Centering finger components (82,114) are mounted on each of the front and rear jaws and operate to center a workpiece in the spindle (S) relative to the spindle axis (A) during pivotal movement of the jaws (52,100) radially inwardly of the spindle (S).</p> |
