A method for casting powder into a compact comprises: charging material powder into a slurry vessel (1) to prepare slurry of the material powder; removing air contained in the slurry by reducing an inside pressure of the slurry vessel; casting the slurry into a mould (11) by applying a pressure to the slurry as the inside pressure is kept at the reduced pressure; and cooling the slurry through the mould (11) to solidify the slurry into a compact and thereafter demolding the mould (11). Further an apparatus for the method comprises: a slurry vessel (1) capable of preparing slurry of material powder and of keeping an inside pressure of the slurry vessel (1) at a reduced pressure; means for reducing the inside pressure; a mould (11) having a cooling conduit tube in the mould (11); and a slurry pump (7) for transferring the slurry from the slurry vessel (1) to the mould (11).
