摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a linear polarized light rays output through a simple structure so as to facilitate a cutting process of metal or the like by a method wherein streaks are provided in parallel with a mirror. CONSTITUTION:A total reflection mirror 8 is provided with a lattice structure which is in parallel with a direction of a Y-axis. That is, when surface of the mirror is formed of a lattice structure, even if light rays incident on the mirror 8 are macroscopically perpendicular to its face, but practically they are obliquely incident on the surface of the mirror 8. Moreover, when the depth d of the skin effect corresponding to the incident light rays is very small as compared with the depth D of the lattice, the reflection is made to take place depending on the oscillation of free electrons inside the skin effect depth, so that the reflectance varies with the Y-axis and the X-axis polarized light component. Here, the resonator loss of the Y-axis polarized light component is smaller than that of the X-axis polarized light component, so that laser rays are limited to the Y-axis polarized light component. By these processes, linearly polarized in the direction of the Y-axis can be obtained.
