In an image generating device with parts which require maintenance at quite definite specified intervals, memories are provided to store data relating to the maintenance intervals of individual parts of the image generating device, data relating to the normal running time of parts of the image generating device, and data relating to maintenance instructions about how to proceed during maintenance of the parts. Also, devices are provided to distinguish the individual maintenance times from each other, and an output device is provided to automatically output a maintenance instruction, which relates to a specified part, about which information that the maintenance time is approaching or is already due is displayed.
