PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a thin profile, excellent balance of a small hole diameter with a mechanical strength and high reliability and to provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery used therewith. SOLUTION: This separator for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is a separator carried with an organic silicon compound by a chemical bond. The organic silicon compound is a polyalkyleneoxide-denatured polysiloxane. The separator for the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is composed of a nonwoven fabric containing 50 wt.% of a fine fiber of 1 denier or under. The fine fiber is formed by splitting at least one part of a splitting type combined fiber and at least one component of the splitting type combined fiber is composed of an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer or polyvinyl alcohol. This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is used with this separator for the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery.
