PURPOSE:To prevent the retraction of the meniscus at an ink emitting orifice in a capping state, by allowing the interior of a cap to temporarily communicate with the atmosphere when a predetermined time is elapsed after capping while the temp. of a recording head is controlled. CONSTITUTION:When a predetermined time, for example, a min is elapsed after a recording head is capped while the temp. thereof is controlled by controlling the driving of a posistor 16, an air valve 19 is temporarily opened to allow a cap 8 to communicate with the atmosphere and the rising in the internal pressure of the cap 8 is prevented to prevent the excessive retraction of the meniscus 24 at an ink emitting orifice 21. In this control method, when the next operation is not taken even if a definite time is elapsed after the finish of printing, the recording head 4 is returned to the home position HP to be capped and temp. is controlled by the prosistor 16 to keep proper stop temp., for example 15-20 deg.C to pref. limit the retraction quantity of the meniscus at the time of capping. |
