A feed arrangement for particulate material comprises means (1) for containing a pile of such material; means (2, 3, 4) at the bottom of the containing means defining a space and having an opening (5) communicating from above with the space; conveying means (8) communicating with the space for conveying such material which has passed from such a pile into the space via the opening; and a horizontal plate (13) movable horizontally with respect to the opening for allowing and preventing such material to pass through the opening into the space.
