PURPOSE: To obtain a high performance aromatic polyester fiber free from surface fibrillation or agglutination of monofilaments by an alkaline treatment of filaments comprising a polyester based thermotropic liquid crystal polymer to form a specific fine corrugated surface on the surface of the filaments. CONSTITUTION: The surface of filaments comprising a polyester based thermotropic liquid crystal polymer is removed by an alkaline solution, and fine concave or convex parts are formed on the surface in the periphery direction rectangular to the fiber axes. The high performance aromatic polyester filaments free from surface fibrillation or agglutination of monofilaments are obtained setting the length of the convex part to >=0.05μm, average distance between neighboring bottoms existing in the fiber axis direction to 0.05 to 0.5μm, the ratio of corrugated area in the surface area of the filament to >=30%. |
