: In a high frequency heating apparatus oven heating and grill cooking can be performed by means of a flat heating element. The arrangement is such that, when high frequency is supplied to the heating chamber with an oven plate therein, abnormal, e.g. local, heating and sparking are avoided. With the oven plate in the heating chamber, cooking can be performed by means of microwave energy or a heater element which can be used alternately or in combination depending on the situation to obtain the best heating condition. The apparatus is simpler and more energy efficient than prior arrangements.
