PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of a major accident by automatically confirming an obstacle in front and applying brakes at the time of setting a change gear to the third-gear or the top-gear position. CONSTITUTION:In an automobile which transmits the power of an engine 2 to wheels 5, 5' via a change gear 3 and a differential gear 4, a limit switch 10 is provided on the lower portion of the change lever 9 of the change gear 3. When the change gear 3 is set to the third-gear or the top-gear (high speed) position, the switch 10 is closed closing a relay 12. Also, a bypass pipe 15 is connected in parallel to a hydraulic oil pipe for a braking device which is operated by stepping in a brake pedal 8, and a solenoid valve 11 is provided midway in the bypass pipe 15. Further, an obstacle detecting sensor 13 is provided in the front portion of a vehicle and the solenoid valve 11 is excited by means of the output thereof via the relay 12 to operate the braking device.
