Process for producing iron-neodymium-dysprosium-boron alloys

By means of the addition of dysprosium oxide to Fe-Nd-B base alloys, the coercive field strength of magnets produced on this basis can be very considerably improved. The addition has hitherto been carried out purely powder metallurgically. This has the disadvantage that losses in residual magnetism have to be accepted. The invention provides a solution by the addition of dysprosium oxide powder being carried out by melt metallurgy. Preferably, a granular material of pressed dysprosium oxide powder is mixed into the melt. Nd-Dy-(Fe) pre-alloys can also be produced in the melt by the same process.
