The invention concerns alkaline batteries of the plate type, the cells of which are vacuum prepacked inside a plastic membrane 5 which acts as a casing for them. A sharp contact spike 4 is attached to the positive collector plate 3 in each cell, which spike 4 acts as a positive pole and penetrates through the casing of the cell surrounded by a sealing substance at its point of attachment. When the cells are stacked on top of each other, the contact spike 4 penetrates the casing of the following cell and penetrates its packing 7 of zinc compound which acts as a negative electrode, bringing about a series connection of the cells. The negative pole in the battery consists of a metal plate provided with contact spikes which makes contact with the zinc compound 7 in the end cell when it is pressed against the cell. By means of the invention an improved seal is achieved at the place where the contact spike 4 penetrates the casing 5 of the cell, by means of a plastic reinforcing plate 11 being attached on the negative side of each cell, which plate prevents the zinc compound 7 from being compressed at the place where the contact spike 4 penetrates when the batteries of cells are put together. Each side of the reinforcing plate 11 is provided with a layer of an adhesive sealing substance. In addition to the invention making it possible to effectively prevent the leakage of electrolyte from the cells, the efficiency of the active substances in the cells is improved and the manufacturing process for the batteries is simplified. <IMAGE> |
