In order to create a tooth brush having a rotating, bristle-carrying brush body which permits gingival massage at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the teeth and in the direction of the tooth end, coupled with simultaneous removal of food remnants in the direction of the tooth end without food remnants being massaged into the gums, and which permits gingival massage and removal of food remnants in the dental region of the human upper jaw and in the dental region of the lower jaw with the same efficiency, it is provided that the tooth brush (10) comprise a rod-shaped moulding (20) designed as a handle (21) on one end which carries a rod-shaped brush body (30) carrying bristles (31) on all sides on its free end (20a) facing away from the handle (21), the brush body (30) being mounted on the free end (20a) of the rod-shaped moulding (20) so as to be rotatable about its longitudinal axis (35) extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the moulding (20) and being connected via a drive shaft (32; 132) with an electromotor drive unit (40) located in the handle (21) for execution of a revolving movement, the drive shaft (32; 132) for the brush body (30) being designed so as to be movable to and fro in the longitudinal direction of the brush body by means of another drive unit (140). <IMAGE>
