The fibre content of the composite material is varied such that the modulus of elasticity of the struts and ribs reduces in the longitudinal direction. In the case of the intended structure having an undercarriage, the wings are caused to oscillate by operating the foot-operated crank. At the same time, the wing ends deform such that forward propulsion is produced and the aircraft lifts off at the minimum flying speed. The pilot can take off without external assistance. Flight is accelerated and a change made into climbing flight by further oscillation of the wings. In areas of upward air currents, the wings can be stopped, so that the aircraft glides. Any desired destination can thus be reached, independently of zones of upward air currents. It will be an ideal recreational appliance, which can be used for terrain searching as well. <IMAGE>
