The experiences with polyethylene as cable insulation in the medium-voltage range were so good and also sufficient that very high voltage cables were inevitably developed which had a solid dielectric of polyethylene. The fittings therefor largely resembled the fittings in the medium-voltage range. It is only logical that the development of very high voltage cables moves into ranges of 400 kV and more. This however requires a new design for the corresponding fittings. The invention discloses a push-on sleeve for very high voltage cables, in which an inner sleeve body 6 is closed on both sides by side electrodes 7 whose strength is matched to the thickness of the layer of the inner sleeve body 6, the outer conductive layer 9 of an outer sleeve body 8 being shortened at the ends to such an extent that the outer sleeve body 8 is free of the outer conductive layer 9 in the region of the side electrodes 7. A push-on sleeve of this kind can in the end be used for a very high voltage range of up to 400 kV. <IMAGE>
