A description is given of a device for locking the pivotable backrest of a motor-vehicle seat in the position where it has been pivoted forwards in order, as a result, to render the steering wheel, glove compartment and/or dashboard of the motor vehicle inaccessible. The device comprises at least one locking unit which can be mounted on one side of the seat frame and has a locking element which reaches under the backrest arm, mounted pivotably on the seat frame, in the position where it has been pivoted forwards, and a latching element which latches the locking element in this position.
