PURPOSE:To improve luminescence efficiency by turning a bipolar switch element on with its control circuit when the output voltage from a resonance circuit becomes the preset voltage. CONSTITUTION:When the voltage of an AC power source 1 is resonated by a resonance circuit 11, the wave-shaped voltage appears across both ends of a capacitor 3, and the capacitor voltage 5-6 times as large as the voltage of the power source 1 is obtained. In the 1/2 cycle (half wave) of the voltage of the AC power source 1, a bipolar switch element 5 is turned on when the voltage of the capacitor 3 becomes the preset voltage. A trigger circuit 12 is activated when the element 5 is turned on, the high voltage is generated on a high-voltage generating transformer 7 by the energy stored in a capacitor 6, and the high voltage is applied to an AC type flash lamp (PXA) 10 from a trigger electrode 9. The energy of the capacitor 3 is fed to the PXA 10, and a current flows to illuminate the PXA 10. There is a slight time lag before the current flows through the PXA 10, the element 5 must be kept conducting during this time, and this lighting action is repeated for each subsequent 1/2 cycle of the voltage of the AC power source 1. |
