PURPOSE:To speedily perform a ribbon saving operation, by locking a pinch roller against rotation to thereby clamp an ink ribbon between the pinch roller and a driven pinch roller, and moving them together with a thermal head toward the higher printing position side, at the time of the ribbon saving operation. CONSTITUTION:At the time of a ribbon saving operation, a carriage 3 is stopped, and a status switching motor 12 is driven to turn a cam block 21 clockwise, whereby a thermal head 7 is separated from a platen 1, whereas a pinch roller 9 is locked and lowered to clamp an ink ribbon 8 between it and a driven pinch roller 10. Then, the carriage 3 is moved toward the higher printing position side, and the ink ribbon 8 is slippably taken up toward the higher printing position side at a higher velocity, whereby the ribbon is saved while being provided with a fixed tension. Thus, contamination of a paper can be securely prevented, and switching between a ribbon saving condition and a printing condition can be performed speedily and surely. |
