PURPOSE:To improve the probability of focusing on an object which should be photographed by selecting an algorithm for deciding defocusing quantity from driving a lens from the defocusing quantities concerning plural areas of a photographed image plane in accordance with the distribution of the relative position of the object. CONSTITUTION:A defocusing quantity calculation means 1 calculates the defocusing quantities concerning plural areas of the photographed image plane and a defocusing quantity decision means 2 decides one defocusing quantity based on the defocusing quantity obtained in the defocusing quantity calculation means 1. The defocusing quantity decision means 2 provides plural algorithms for deciding the defocusing quantity, which are selected by a selection means 4 according to the distribution of the relative position of the object obtained in an object distribution decision means 3. Thus, the algorithm for deciding the defocusing quantity suitable for the distribution can be used according to the distribution of the relative position of the object and the probability of focusing on the object which should be photographed can be raised. |
