PURPOSE:To reduce the propagation loss of light and the power consumption for optical switch control by dispersing and solidifying a material which produces a photochromic phenomenon in a core material which forms a plastic optical fiber and arranging light sources for control outside the plastic optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The material which produces the photochromic phenomenon is dispersed and solidified in the core material pc which forms the plastic optical fiber. The two or three light sources L1, L2... for control are arranged outside the plastic optical fiber so as to control the transmission and cutoff of light propagated in the core material pc. Therefore, light beams which differ in wavelength are projected from the external light sources L1 and L2 to switch on and off the light propagated in the plastic fiber. Consequently, the propagation loss of the light is reduced and the power is saved. |
