A moving flexible recording medium makes physical contact with a surface of a head, whose surface is curved and comprises a non- magnetic transducing gap which intersects the direction of movement of the recording medium. The radius of curvature of the contact face of the head with the recording medium has a maximum valve at the area of the transducing gap in order to obtain an optimum contact between recording medium and head at the area of the transducing gap in combination with a minimum detrition of the head at the area of the transducing gap.
