A container storing system for container ships comprises vertical shafts (2-9). In the longitudinal direction of the ship these shafts are defined by transverse end walls (11, 20, 21) and in the transverse direction of the ship by opposing vertical partition guides (22-37) extending from the transverse end walls (11, 20, and 21). These partition guides are relatively narrow when seen in the transverse direction. At least one transverse end wall (11, 20, and 21) abutting each shaft (2-9) comprises at the top inclined guide surfaces (39, 40) inclining towards the interior of the shaft. In order to allow a quick guiding of the containers into each shaft during the loading in spite of relatively small differences as to dimensions between the containers and the shafts-seen in the transverse direction-each pair of the opposition partition guides (22-37) of each shaft is shaped in such a manner that upwards they end at substantially the same height level at the same time as the pair of opposing partition guides at one side of each shaft - seen in the transverse direction - extends to a different height level than the other pair of partition guides. <IMAGE> |
