<p>The subject of the invention is devices for making small translucent pieces of ice. They have an evaporator (10) with freezing cells (12) which are open at their lower end. Water is sprayed into the freezing cells (12) from a tank (30) with the aid of a spraying device (20) with rotating scoop wheels (28). The side walls (13) of the freezing cells (12) are mutually insulated by strips (14) of insulating material. Linear heating elements (15, 17) are fastened to the insulating material strips (14). On defrosting of the finished small pieces of ice (1), the ice deposit between the freezing cells (12) is defrosted first with the aid of the heating elements (15, 17). The small pieces of ice (1) fall onto a longitudinally slotted metal sheet or grating (36) and are guided away from this over the spraying device (20) into the storage container.
