An optical collision prevention device for attachment to a vehicle, in particular aircraft. The device responds to pulsating light sources whose light is within a selected frequency band and in particular to the frequency of aircraft light sources which are clocked and to rotating beacon light sources. In contrast, the device disregards all the other light sources such as continuous natural light sources, manmade light sources such as street lighting and ground lighting sources. The device perceives pulsating light sources on aircraft or ground vehicles within the vicinity of the light sources (transmitters) and produces a visible and audible alarm for pilot or driver. The alarm is given if another vehicle, in particular aircraft is located within the detection range which typically has an elliptical shape around the transmitter (the light source) in all directions with a detection range of up to approximately 5 km. The device is intended to perceive clocked or rotating beacons (strobe or rotating beacons) whose frequencies are standardised by national regulations (U.S. Federal Regulations) according to which it is also necessary for such light sources to be lit at any time during a flight. The collision prevention device has an optical detector for visible pulsating light sources, a detection prevention device for suppressing signals of undesired light sources, a ...
