Vibration-damping device or device for varying the damping force of a vibration damper subjected to compressive loading (operation in the compression stage) or tensile loading (operation in the extension stage) and containing a damping medium which is displaced during operation in the compression stage and in the extension stage to remove kinetic energy, a controllable damping valve, through which the pressure medium is passed, being provided for the infinitely variable adjustment of the damping force.
