PURPOSE:To simplify the assembly, to improve the productivity, and to reduce the manufacture cost by arranging a light source on the small-diameter side of the optical element which has a tapered through hole and arranging a tip- tapered optical fiber on the large-diameter side. CONSTITUTION:The tapered through hole 12 is formed in the glass body 11 of the optical element 10, a laser diode 20 is arranged where its internal diameter is small while the tip tapered part 31 of an optical fiber 30 is arranged where the internal diameter is large, and the tip end 32 is worked into a spherical surface. This constitution allows light from a light source 20 to enter the through hole 12 and the tilt angle of the reflection of the reflecting film 13 is reduced. Then the light entering the fiber core is propagated in the core as it is and light except in the core is reflected repeatedly by the tapered part 31 to enter a propagation mode. Consequently, the assembly is easily performed without any adjustment, no high-level working is required, and the cost is reduced. |
