In the clinical preparatory work for a denture the occlusal position carrier permits the dentist a preliminary provisional bite-taking by using this instrument to introduce suitable impression composition into the mouth, so that the patient can close the mouth during taking an impression of the oral cavity. The shaping of the occlusal position carrier permits this to be done irrespective of whether there are still teeth remaining in the patient's mouth. Thus, this preliminary bite-taking can be done in patients having all their teeth or only some teeth left, as well as in patients without teeth. By this type of preliminary bite-taking the dentist makes it possible for the dental technician to produce a model of the mouth which can be used to produce bite plates or recording devices related to the skull coordinates. <IMAGE>
