Process for the destruction of chemical waste materials, in particular of organic-chemical waste materials having considerable contents of chlorine and other halogens by hydrogenolysis. A stream of the waste materials together with hydrogen is passed through a bed of carbon particles preferably at least partially consisting of activated carbon, at a temperature between 300 DEG and 750 DEG C.
