PURPOSE:To increase battery performance by mixing mercury, and an alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal, or a specific metal element with molten zinc, and by atomizing the molten zinc alloy. CONSTITUTION:Mercury, and an alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal, or in addition to these metals, at least one element selected from In, Pb, Cd, Tl, and Ga are mixed with molten zinc. The molten zinc alloy is atomized to obtain amalgamated zinc alloy powder. The alkali metal and/or alkaline earth metal are/is at least one metal selected from Li, Na, K, Rb, Ce, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba, and its content is preferable to limit to 0.0005-0.5wt.%. By using this amalgamated zinc alloy powder as a negative active material in an alkaline dry battery, hydrogen gas evolution is retarded regardless of a low amalgamation rate. The battery performance is maintained in a high level. |
