In a conveying line (pipe or hose) filled with a pumpable material to be conveyed, this material is displaced by another substance (e.g. air) with a slight excess pressure. Both substances are separated by an impermeable membrane (displacement cell). The direction is determined by having the conveying line blocked in the undesired direction during displacement by valves or by displacement cells filled with the displacing medium. By connecting these displacement cells in series, a peristaltic pump consisting of individual, physically independent sections is created over the entire conveying length. The displacement cells operate synchronously, periodically, and in groups, depending on the material being pumped and the design. The conveying system can be manufactured without valves or seals so that the material being pumped only comes in contact with the material of the conveying line. It can be used for delivery heads and distances of unlimited size at low operating pressures.
