A collapsible multipurpose ladder comprises ladder parts which are connected to one another on the strings (6) by pairs of articulations (5). Said ladder parts can be fixed in preferred use positions by means of a spring-loaded latching piece which is provided on each articulation. In order to lift out the latching piece, the latter is assigned, on the respective articulation (5), a pivotably mounted release lever (34) which has a handle part (35) projecting from the articulation (5). The handle parts (35) of the two release levers (34) of a pair of articulations (5) are assigned a common, exposed actuating rod (37) which extends over the width of the ladder and can be pivoted by hand. On pivoting the actuating rod (37), the handle parts (35) of the two release levers (34) are pivoted together, and the latching pieces of the two articulations (5) are thus lifted out together. <IMAGE>
