PURPOSE:To simplify the setting of a printing position of a string of characters for a designated area by obtaining space dots based on the total number of dots in a designated area and the number of characters in a string of characters and the number of dots of each character by means of specific arithmetic and logic operation. CONSTITUTION:A controller 1 performs calculation of space using a program. When the number of dots m in an area designated for printing and a constant k for determination of an intercharacter space system are entered from a keyboard 9, the number of dots and the space are set. Then the total number of dots n of a string of characters is calculated based on the number x of a string of characters printed. Next, whether m>=n is checked, and when m<=n, it is regarded as an error. When m>=n, space dot d is obtained by means of a formula 1. When the d is divided as an integer, the number of space dots between characters is output as d. When a string of character 'ABCDE' are printed in an area designated by m without any space on both sides of the string, k is to be set as 1. In addition, when the string of characters are printed with space provided on both sides, k is to be set as -1. |
