PURPOSE:To improve the self-discharge performance and the performance of a battery allowed to stand after overdischarge by containing alkali earth metal ions which do not have adverse effect on a battery in an electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:Glass fibers made of no-alkali glass is used in a separator, and alkali earth metal (such as MgSO4) is contained in an electrolyte. By adding a specified amount of MgSO4, for example, to dilute sulfuric acid, when the concentration of sulfuric acid in the electrolyte is decreased by being allowed to stand after overdischarge or by selfdischarge, MgSO4 takes charge of ions required for advancing charge reaction. Charging capability of the battery allowed to stand for a long time or especially charging recovery capability of the battery allowed to stand after overdischarge is improved. |
