<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a motor operated power steering device by arranging a large gear engagable with a small gear on the shaft of a motor arranged perpendicularly with an output shaft onto the output shaft coupled through a torsion bar with an input shaft, and arranging a torque detection mechanism in a space at the tip of the motor shaft. CONSTITUTION:A pinion shaft 3 to be coupled as an output shaft to the steering wheel side is coupled through a torsion bar 4 with an input shaft, i.e. a stub shaft 2, which is coupled to a steering wheel side. A large gear 10 having a toothed side face 10a at the stub shaft 2 side is arranged on the pinion shaft 3, while a motor 11 for applying auxiliary steering force through the large gear 10 to the pinion shaft 3 side is arranged approximately in perpendicular with the pinion shaft 3 and a small gear 12 is provided at the tip of the motor shaft 11a. A detection mechanism 13 including a contactless torque sensor 20 for detecting relative rotary displacement between the shafts 2, 3 and controlling the motor 11 based on a detected signal is further provided.</p> |
