A shear-resistant fastener for attaching an apertured plate to a member having an internally threaded bore. Ribs and grooves are provided on the fastener and plate, and mating of the ribs and grooves occurs when the fastener is substantially fully received in the threaded bore. Continued rotation of the fastener is thus resisted by this mating, which also gives an indication to the operator to cease further rotation which is likely to shear, e.g., the head from the shank of the fastener. In a first embodiment, the fastener carries the ribs and has a threaded shank, and the plate carries the grooves. In a second embodiment, the fastener is initially threadless, but rotation into the threaded bore forms the threads. In a third embodiment, the fastener carries the grooves while the plate carries the ribs. Both the fastener and the plate can be made of polymeric material.
|
