PURPOSE:To realize the image pick-up of a subject moving at a high speed by reading the signals out of 1/N pieces of photoelectric converter and reading the same photoelectric converter by N times within the same field. CONSTITUTION:In a vertical scan period, a Y decoder 2 selects a vertical gate line 9, and a vertical switch 6 and a signal line reading switch 8 connected to the line 9 are opened. Under such conditions, an X decoder 1 selects a horizontal gate line 10 and opens a horizontal switch 5. Thus the signal charge emerges at an output terminal 11 via a horizontal signal line 3 and a vertical signal line 4. Then the signals are read out of 1/N pieces of photoelectric converters read within a single field and the same photoelectric converter is read by N times within the same field.
