Locking mechanism for a sliding leaf consisting of a latch (7) and a sliding fitting (8), such fitting (8) including an interior plate (11) provided with a handle (26) integrally connected with a control slot (29) cooperating with the control element of the latch (7) through the intermediary of a connecting element (33) and an external plate (9) provided with a safety block (45) cooperating with the control slot (29) through the intermediary of its transmission unit (44) characterized by the fact that the control slot (29), cooperating with the control element of the latch (7) and the safety block (45) is detachable and reversible and that it includes a boss (40) projecting in relation to one of its faces (41, 42) and in which a housing (43) is made penetrated by the transmission unit (44) of the safety block (45).
