PURPOSE:To obtain a simulator of a simple structure and a low cost, by which the picture quality is not deteriorated, by executing simultaneously a correction corresponding to a gamma characteristic of a CRT and a correction corresponding to a gamma characteristic of photographic paper without using density information. CONSTITUTION:In order to execute simultaneously a correction corresponding to a gamma characteristic of a CRT and a correction corresponding to a gamma characteristic of photographic paper without using a logarithmic converting circuit and a reverse logarithmic converting circuit, that is, by using a camera output as it is without obtaining the density information from the camera output, one gamma correcting circuit 342 is provided. That is, by executing a gamma correction to a characteristic of a CRT 345 and a gamma correction to a characteristic of photographic paper 24, a negative image recorded in a film 18 is photographed, and the same positive image as a positive image which has been printed by automatic photograph printing equipments 26, 27 is displayed on the CRT 345. In such a way, the S/N is satisfactory, and also, the simulator can be manufactured at a low cost.
